Emmerdale actress Martelle Edinborough, best known for her portrayal of Suzy Merton,
could be making a move to another beloved British soap following her dramatic exit from the ITV show.
Martelle first stepped into the role of Suzy in 2022, and it didn’t take long for her to win over fans.
She quickly became a major player in the village, particularly due to her relationship with Vanessa Woodfield, played by Michelle Hardwick.

With her exit from Emmerdale now official, speculation has already begun about Martelle’s next career move—and many believe she could be headed for another soap. According to exclusive odds provided by Betway, Martelle is currently at 4/1 to join another long-running British serial drama.
Betway spokesperson Mike Reading noted, “Martelle has a track record of sticking to scripted drama, having previously appeared in Coronation Street and Hollyoaks. With EastEnders the last major soap she hasn’t tackled, a trip to Albert Square is priced up at 4/1!”
Industry insiders also agree that Martelle’s next steps could very well lead her to another soap. PR expert Dom Aldworth, Head of Brand Marketing at Slingo, weighed in on the possibility, explaining that moving to a rival show would be a logical career move. He said, “As a fan favourite in the genre, she could take on a fresh challenge in EastEnders, where she could explore bold new storylines and tackle real-life issues with greater depth.”
That said, Martelle may decide to venture beyond the soap opera scene entirely. Aldworth suggested she could pursue roles in drama series or even break into the film industry. He noted, “Having previously featured in the dark comedy short film ‘The Tooth Fairy’ in 2020, this experience could open the door for her to take on more roles in this genre.”
Regardless of where her career takes her next, one thing is certain—Martelle has left an impression on Emmerdale fans, and they will be eagerly following her next move.
