Emmerdale star Mark Charnock has shed light on what’s in store for Marlon Dingle following his drastic attempt to sever 

his daughter April Windsor’s friendship with Dylan—an act that led to devastating consequences.

Marlon’s protective instincts as a father took a dark turn in recent episodes of the ITV soap.

Ever since April (Amelia Flanagan) disappeared on Christmas Day and later returned, Marlon has struggled with her lack of openness about her experiences on the streets. 

The emotional distance between them has left him feeling helpless, while April, believing her father wouldn’t understand, has kept him at arm’s length.

In an attempt to bridge the growing gap between them, Marlon agreed to let April’s troubled friend Dylan (Fred Kettle) stay at their home. 

What was initially supposed to be a one-night arrangement soon extended as Marlon promised April that Dylan could stay until he was free from the grip of spice, a highly addictive drug.

However, doubts about Dylan’s presence lingered in Marlon’s mind. His concerns escalated when his wife, Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry), made a shocking discovery—a vial of ketamine had gone missing from the veterinary surgery. Suspicion immediately fell on Dylan, leading to a tense confrontation. Despite Dylan’s insistence that he was innocent, the missing drugs were found in his pockets. Forced to leave, Dylan had nowhere to turn.

Marlon’s relief at having removed Dylan from April’s life was short-lived when he received a distressing phone call—Dylan had been rushed to the hospital after a suspected overdose. Realizing the consequences of his actions, Marlon was overcome with guilt and confessed to setting Dylan up in a desperate bid to protect his daughter.

Speaking about the shocking turn of events, Mark Charnock revealed that Marlon is deeply remorseful. “He immediately regrets it. He just went blind with trying to get rid of him. He didn’t think of the consequences,” Charnock explained.

Marlon’s actions were driven by fear, but now, the weight of responsibility hangs over him. “He should have thought before he jumped, and he regrets it immediately—especially hearing that Dylan has overdosed, which is the most crushing piece of news. Marlon is responsible for that overdose, really. I think he knows that, so his immediate reaction is that he’s got to try and square it and make it up to him. He feels awful.”

The road ahead for Marlon and April remains uncertain. Now that Dylan’s life has been put at risk due to Marlon’s interference, their already fragile father-daughter relationship faces its biggest test yet. Marlon’s attempts to reconcile with April may not come easily, as she is bound to be devastated upon learning the truth about how Dylan was forced out of their home.

Charnock also hinted at the emotional turmoil awaiting Marlon and his family in the aftermath of these events. “When the kids come back, that’s when the next incredibly difficult second act begins. You’ve had the horror of them not being there, you find them, and now it’s the indescribable confusion of trying to understand what they are now—because they’re different people from when they left the house.”

April has already endured significant hardship, and her bond with Dylan was one of the few things giving her comfort. Discovering her father’s betrayal could push her even further away from him. Will Marlon be able to repair the damage, or has he shattered his daughter’s trust beyond repair?

As the storyline unfolds, Emmerdale viewers will no doubt be on the edge of their seats, waiting to see how April reacts to the revelation—and whether Dylan survives his overdose.
