The storyline surrounding Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) on General Hospital continues to captivate fans, 

with her complicated relationships, fierce loyalty to her family, and her never-ending pursuit of control over her loved ones’ lives.

As Michael’s (Chad Duell) critical accident leaves him fighting for his life, Carly’s emotional state is bound to be shaken. 

However, while Carly may seem like the devastated mother who might be coming to terms with the potential loss of her son, 

some fans are already speculating about a darker motive at play: could Carly be setting her sights on Michael’s children, Wylie and Amelia Grace? 

If so, would this be part of a larger, diabolical plan to keep them for herself?

Carly’s Motherly Instincts… and Control Issues

Carly has always prided herself on being a maternal figure, particularly to children who aren’t biologically hers. She’s already developed a close relationship with her granddaughter Donna, even convincing the little one to call her “Mama Carly.” While this may seem sweet on the surface, Carly’s past actions suggest that her maternal instincts don’t always come from a pure place. Instead, they often come with a desire for control, and that extends to how she handles her relationships with other people’s children.

Now that Michael’s life is in jeopardy, the question arises: Will Carly once again resort to her manipulative tendencies to secure Wylie and Amelia Grace’s future under her care? Given the ongoing turmoil between her and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), it’s hard to ignore the possibility that Carly could see this as an opportunity to assume even more control over her family.

The “Mother” of All Plans

Carly’s longstanding belief that she knows what’s best for everyone around her—particularly her children—has often led to her taking matters into her own hands. In the case of Michael’s children, Wylie and Amelia Grace, Carly could find herself seeing an opportunity to raise them, especially with their biological mother, Willow, facing mounting personal struggles. But Carly’s maternal instincts aren’t always purely driven by love. Can Carly Manipulate Willow?

Carly’s subtle—and sometimes not-so-subtle—manipulation of Willow’s feelings about Nina set the stage for Willow to distance herself from her mother when she needed to.

Could Carly use this same tactic again to drive a wedge between Willow and Nina, ensuring that Willow will turn to Carly for support? If Carly can make Willow feel betrayed by Nina once again—perhaps by revealing the extent of Nina’s relationship with Drew (Cameron Mathison)—she might be able to make Willow feel isolated and desperate, seeking comfort from Carly and, in turn, allowing Carly to play a more significant role in the children’s lives.

Drew’s Role in the Drama

Drew, who has been entangled in his own romantic entanglements, including sleeping with both Carly and Willow, might unwittingly play a significant role in Carly’s plan. His past history with both women provides Carly with a potential opening. Should Willow discover Drew’s infidelity with Nina, it could spark a fallout, turning Willow further against Nina and giving Carly the upper hand. With Willow alienated from Nina and struggling emotionally, Carly could step in as a comforting, maternal figure, reinforcing her claim to the children.

Additionally, Drew’s loyalty to Carly could also come into play. He owes her a great deal, and his past relationships with both Carly and Willow may complicate matters further. Carly could use this leverage to her advantage, convincing Drew that taking the children away from Willow might be in their best interest, and that it would be honoring Michael’s wishes—whether or not that’s true.

The Bigger Picture

As much as Carly may play the role of the grieving, devoted mother, there’s no denying that she also has a history of using emotional turmoil to further her own agenda. If Carly is indeed plotting to take control of Michael’s children, she may be doing so under the guise of acting in their best interest. But whether or not that will be truly beneficial for Wylie and Amelia Grace remains to be seen. With Carly’s complex relationships with both Willow and Drew, the situation is bound to get even messier as this storyline unfolds.

As Michael continues to fight for his life, Carly’s actions will undoubtedly set the stage for a major shift in the lives of her family members. Will Carly succeed in taking control of Wylie and Amelia Grace’s future? Or will her schemes come crashing down as the truth about her manipulations is exposed?
