Former Coronation Street star Vicky Entwistle has received significant backlash after publicly

supporting Gino D’Acampo and criticizing ITV’s ‘woke agenda.’ Entwistle, best known for her role as Janice Battersby on the long-running soap, took to social media to express her views on the controversy surrounding D’Acampo, who faces allegations of inappropriate behavior.

Expressing her disbelief at the reaction to her comments, Entwistle wrote on X: “Genuinely

shocked at the response to my comment. I stick by every word. Unless a woman is sexually assaulted in the workplace, there is nothing but hurty words. Are we to cry for that? This man was built up to be everything on his tin; they can’t suddenly change it to suit a trend.”
Entwistle had initially posted a picture of D’Acampo on February 10, accompanied by a message voicing her support for the chef. She wrote: “I don’t know this man personally, therefore I have no reason to stick my neck out in his defence. BUT!! ITV played that man for all he was worth… cheeky, naughty, foreign, hilarious!! It all fitted in 10 years ago… Now with a new WOKE agenda they crucify him?!?”
The post sparked considerable debate among her followers. While some supported her stance, others criticized her for minimizing the allegations. One supporter commented: “Totally agree, Vicky. I know he was a bit of a naughty boy when he first moved to London, but that was 20+ years ago and we all make mistakes. He had a family to provide for. I get the impression a lot of these anonymous trolls who are in a permanent state of offended are just sad, lonely, and jealous individuals by nature and seem to get a kick on persecuting someone.”
Another added: “Gino has never been any different. ‘Carry On’ type humour has always been a part of everything he does. ITV are a joke & a bad one at that. What on earth has happened to them?”
However, not everyone was convinced. One dissenting voice stated: “But nobody knows if all the complaints relate to ‘hurty words’ do they? There are multiple complaints being investigated by several organisations.”
The allegations against D’Acampo include claims of using sexualized and hostile language on set, behavior described as “unacceptable, distressing and horrendous.” D’Acampo has denied all accusations, stating in a February 7 interview with ITV News: “I have been told by ITN news that allegations have been made about me acting inappropriately, some dating back over 10 years ago.”

He added: “I have never been made aware of these matters previously and the allegations are firmly denied. I would not do anything that I thought would upset or distress anyone. This is simply not in my nature. I do not recognize the version of events being put to me.”
D’Acampo also pointed out that he has worked with over 1,500 individuals across 80 productions without prior incident. “I am a father, husband, and have worked with well over 1,500 people on around 80 productions in my career, which I have been so proud of. I take such matters extremely seriously and the suggestion that I have acted in an improper way is deeply upsetting.”
The situation has ignited discussions about workplace behavior, accountability, and evolving standards in the entertainment industry. ITV has yet to release a formal response regarding Entwistle’s remarks or the ongoing investigation into D’Acampo’s alleged conduct.
