This was followed by a role as a solicitor in the ITV comedy Watching in 1993. From 1994 to 1997, he portrayed Brother Oswin in the crime drama Cadfael, gaining recognition for his talent.

Before securing his defining role in Emmerdale, Charnock also made appearances in Coronation Street, another one of Britain’s most well-loved soaps.
