Emmerdale SHOCK: Amy holds her husband Matty’s hand and speaks about the rotting body in the river before taking her last breath! But when Matty is about to tell the police, Caleb stops him! Why?

Natalie Ann Jamieson has shared her thoughts on her heartbreaking departure from Emmerdale,

following the tragic demise of her character, Amy Barton, in Thursday’s (February 20, 2025) episode.

Amy’s final moments unfolded after a catastrophic limousine crash sent her plunging into a frozen lake.

Struggling to reach safety, she broke through the ice and was submerged beneath the water, facing a terrifying battle for survival.

Fortunately, Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh) managed to pull her out, but the ordeal had already taken a serious toll.

As Amy was rushed to the hospital, doctors diagnosed her with hypothermia.

Although she initially showed some hopeful signs of recovery—squeezing her son Kyle’s (Huey Quinn) hand and expressing her love for her husband, Matty (Ash Palmisciano)—her condition quickly worsened. She suffered a seizure due to the strain of the warming process before tragically going into cardiac arrest. Despite medical efforts, she could not be saved, leaving her family, including her mother, Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton), in deep grief.

Speaking to RadioTimes.com about her character’s emotional exit, Jamieson described the storyline as “iconic” and admitted she would be “a mess” while watching the dramatic scenes play out. Having portrayed Amy since 2019, she expressed pride in her character’s final arc, acknowledging the impact of such a major soap moment.

Recalling her initial reaction to the script, Jamieson shared her excitement about the stunt-heavy storyline. “I was thrilled when I first heard about it. The scale of the sequence—two limos, an ice crash, a body submerged in the water—was beyond anything I expected. It was an exhilarating challenge, but also bittersweet, knowing it marked my last scenes with the Emmerdale team.”

Filming the underwater sequences was a demanding experience, but Jamieson embraced the challenge. “At first, I was nervous, unsure of what to expect. But the crew ensured I was in safe hands throughout the process. I took on every scene myself, even holding my breath underwater longer than I ever had before. Wearing a wetsuit, I had to weigh myself down with pockets full of weights just to stay submerged! It was cold and intense, but ultimately, I was proud of what we achieved.”

Despite the challenges, Jamieson found the experience rewarding but admitted she wouldn’t be taking up deep-sea diving anytime soon. “At the end of filming, they asked if I’d consider diving in real life, and I just laughed and said, ‘Probably not!’”

Reflecting on her time in Emmerdale, Jamieson expressed deep admiration for Amy Barton as a character. “Amy had a fierce loyalty to those she loved, always standing up for her friends and family. In real life, she’s exactly the kind of person I’d gravitate towards—a strong, gobby Geordie lass with a heart of gold.”

As Emmerdale prepares to explore the aftermath of Amy’s tragic death in the coming episodes, fans are left mourning one of the soap’s most vibrant and beloved characters. The devastating loss is sure to send ripples through the village, as her loved ones struggle to come to terms with her untimely passing.

Emmerdale continues to air on ITV and ITVX, with Friday’s (February 21) episode delving into the emotional fallout of Amy’s heartbreaking exit.
