Amid a wave of recent departures from *Coronation Street*, actor Sam Aston has opened up about the future of his character, Chesney Brown, on the ITV soap.

With several prominent cast members bidding farewell, including Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley), Colson Smith (Craig Tinker),
and Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw), many fans have been wondering about the fate of other long-running characters like Chesney.
In an interview with *The Sun*, Aston reassured fans that he has no immediate plans to leave the show.

Although he is not currently filming, he confirmed that he hasn’t been written out of the soap. “So at the minute I’m not filming right now, but I am there,” Aston explained.

“I’m not like written out for this or anything like that. I’ve got a bit of work in the pipeline coming up, so it’ll just depend on how far I go and how busy I can potentially get.”

Aston, who has been a fixture on *Coronation Street* for over a decade, acknowledged the ongoing changes within the show as several big names depart. “We’re in a period at the minute where a couple of the big characters are going,” he said, noting that *Coronation Street* has always had a revolving door of characters coming and going. “Obviously we have lost, with Helen especially, one of the icons on the show. 50 years, she was an absolute legend. Hats off to her – enjoy your retirement, you deserve it,” Aston added, referring to the departure of Helen Worth, who played the beloved Gail Platt for over five decades.
As *Coronation Street* faces the departure of some of its long-standing stars, Aston’s comments underscore the constantly evolving nature of the show. Despite the loss of key characters, Aston’s portrayal of Chesney Brown continues to be an integral part of the storyline, and he is committed to continuing his role for the foreseeable future.
One exciting development for Aston is his participation in the latest season of *Dancing on Ice*, which began airing recently. The actor expressed enthusiasm for this new challenge while continuing to work on *Coronation Street*. “One thing that I have on the go is *Dancing on Ice*,” Aston shared, highlighting his busy schedule. As he balances his commitment to both the soap and the ice skating competition, his fans are eager to see how he manages both pursuits.

When it comes to Chesney’s storyline on *Coronation Street*, Aston teased that the “man-in-the-van” plot, which has been gaining traction in recent episodes, will continue. The storyline, which involves Chesney navigating various challenges in his personal and professional life, is set to unfold in the coming weeks. Fans can expect more drama and emotional moments as Chesney deals with the ups and downs of his life in Weatherfield.
Looking to the future, Aston expressed his loyalty to *Coronation Street*, revealing that he is currently on a 12-month contract that has been extended year after year. “I’d love to do 50 years on *Corrie*,” he said. “I mean I’m nearly halfway there. It’s on the cards. We get 12-month contracts, so yes, I’m currently in another 12-month contract that’s been a rolling thing for the last few years.”

Aston’s commitment to the soap and his character’s journey is clear, as he stated that as long as he continues to enjoy his time on the show and *Coronation Street* wants him, he will stay. “I never rest on my laurels. I wouldn’t like to think I’m irreplaceable or anything like that. But as long as they want me and I’m enjoying it, I’ll stay.”
As *Coronation Street* faces the departure of several beloved characters, it’s reassuring for fans to know that Sam Aston’s Chesney Brown is not going anywhere anytime soon. With his ongoing storylines, including the “man-in-the-van” plot, and his exciting new venture on *Dancing on Ice*, it seems like Aston is ready to continue making his mark on the cobbles for many more years to come.
