Actress Claire Sweeney, who has been portraying Cassie Plummer on Coronation Street since 2023,

has reassured fans that she remains committed to the ITV soap despite recent cast departures and schedule changes.
Sweeney, best known for her long-running role as Lindsey Corkhill on Brookside,
stepped into the world of Weatherfield last year as the troubled biological mother of Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall).

Since her arrival, Cassie has been at the center of several dramatic storylines, including her tumultuous relationship with her mother,

Evelyn Plummer (Dame Maureen Lipman), and her ongoing battle with addiction.

Claire Sweeney Addresses Corrie Future
Speaking at the TV Choice Awards, Sweeney confirmed that she has no plans to leave Coronation Street anytime soon.
“I’m doing good, and I’m happy and working. I’m in Coronation Street for this year, and I’m very happy,” she shared with The Sun Online and other media outlets.
When asked about the recent shake-ups within the cast, she remained optimistic, stating: “Yeah, everyone is happy there!”
Sweeney’s comments come amid a wave of major cast departures from the beloved soap, with several long-standing actors announcing their exits in recent months.
A Wave of Exits from Coronation Street
ITV’s flagship soap is undergoing significant changes, with multiple high-profile exits shaking up the cast. Among those departing are:

Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw)
Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley)
Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster)
Shelley King (Yasmeen Metcalfe)
Colson Smith (Craig Tinker)
Paddy Bever (Max Turner)
Perhaps the most shocking exit was that of Coronation Street legend Helen Worth, who played Gail Platt for 50 years. Her departure marked the end of an era, leaving fans and castmates emotional as they bid farewell to one of Weatherfield’s most iconic residents.
ITV Cuts Soap Schedule – Major Changes Coming
In addition to the cast shake-ups, Coronation Street and Emmerdale are set to be affected by ITV’s decision to reduce its soap schedule.
Currently, Coronation Street airs six episodes per week, split across Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with two episodes each night. However, from January 2026, this format will change, with the soap switching to a five-night-a-week schedule with 30-minute episodes.

These scheduling adjustments, along with a reported reduction in production staff, suggest a shift in how ITV plans to manage its long-running dramas in the future. While the network has assured fans that both soaps remain a priority, the changes signal a significant restructuring behind the scenes.
Would Claire Sweeney Return to Brookside?
Before joining Coronation Street, Sweeney was a household name thanks to her 12-year run as Lindsey Corkhill on the Channel 4 soap Brookside, which aired from 1982 to 2003.
With rumors swirling about a potential Brookside revival, Sweeney was asked if she would consider reprising her former role. However, she made it clear that her focus remains on Coronation Street.
“I’m in Corrie, and I’m very happy at Corrie,” she reaffirmed.

What’s Next for Cassie Plummer?
Since arriving in Weatherfield, Cassie Plummer has brought plenty of drama, particularly with her mother, Evelyn, and son, Tyrone. Struggling to rebuild her life after years of addiction, Cassie has had to prove herself to her family while dealing with various temptations and conflicts.
While her future on the cobbles remains secure for now, fans will be eager to see what’s next for Cassie in the ever-evolving landscape of Coronation Street.
