Sam Aston has been crowned the champion of ‘Dancing on Ice,’ marking a triumphant

moment in his career. The 31-year-old actor, widely recognized for portraying Chesney Brown on ‘Coronation Street’ for over two decades, participated in the ITV1 skating competition alongside his professional partner, Molly Lanaghan. On Sunday night (09.03.25),

Sam was visibly shocked when he and Molly were announced as the winners of the grand finale.

Following his victory, Sam spoke to hosts Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern, struggling to find the words to express his emotions. “I’ve literally got no words!” he exclaimed, still processing the monumental moment.
Reflecting on his journey just moments before the announcement, Sam shared his thoughts on the incredible experience he and Molly had shared. “It’s just been such a journey, and a mad one. It was always Molly’s dream to be on this show since watching it as a young girl.”
He also remarked on how time had seemed to both fly and stand still throughout the competition. “It has [gone quickly], but then you see some of the older clips and it feels like forever ago, I dunno!”
Sam and Molly ultimately clinched the title after performing their rendition of the Bolero, a routine that won over the public vote. The duo triumphed over ‘Springwatch’ presenter Michaela Strachan, 58, and her partner, Mark Hanretty, who finished as runners-up in the competition.

After learning that she had placed second, Michaela took a moment to express her gratitude for the experience. “It’s been an amazing journey, and I feel like I’m a winner just to have made it this far with Mark. I’ve done it for the older women!” she said, beaming with pride.
Earlier in the evening, former footballer Anton Ferdinand and his partner, Annette Dytrt, secured third place in the competition. Anton shared his appreciation for the experience and acknowledged Annette’s support throughout the journey. “I have enjoyed it, and I want to thank Annette for making it one less bit up and down. It’s been up and down, but I have fully enjoyed this journey with Annette, so thank you very much.”
Sam joins a select group of ‘Coronation Street’ stars who have competed in ‘Dancing on Ice’ over the show’s nearly 20-year history. However, he is only the third cast member to actually claim victory.
Gaynor Faye, who played Judy Mallett in the late 1990s, won the first-ever series in 2006. More recently, Ryan Thomas—who portrayed Jason Grimshaw on the soap until his departure—took home the trophy in 2024.

Had Michaela won this season, she would have made history as the first woman to claim the title since Olympian Beth Tweddle’s victory in 2013.
Sam’s win is a testament to his dedication, perseverance, and the undeniable chemistry he shared with Molly throughout the competition. His victory adds yet another memorable moment to the legacy of ‘Dancing on Ice,’ and fans will undoubtedly remember his journey for years to come.
