James Bailey is officially set to return to Weatherfield on March 17, marking a new chapter 

for the character as actor Jason Callender takes over the role. Previously, James was portrayed by Nathan Graham, who played him from 2019 until his departure in 2022. Now, with his return to the cobbles, fans can expect to see how his journey unfolds after spending time in the United States.

James has been living overseas with his partner Danny, but his return to Weatherfield is 

driven by a strong sense of family duty. He is eager to reconnect with his loved ones, particularly his sister Dee-Dee, to ensure she is doing well. While he left the cobbles behind for a new life, his homecoming suggests there may be unfinished business waiting for him. His storyline will likely explore what he has been up to during his absence and what aspirations he now holds for the future.

Speaking about the character, Callender shared insight into James’ personality and motivations. “James is determined, whatever he puts his mind to he absolutely goes for it. He’s a little brother, so expect little brother pranks, but more than anything, he loves his family and he really wants to be a dad.” This statement suggests that fatherhood may play a significant role in his future, possibly hinting at a major storyline that explores his desire to build a family of his own.

In addition to James’ return, Weatherfield will soon welcome a brand-new character connected to one of its most established residents. Jonathan Howard, known for his role in Downton Abbey, has been cast as Carl Webster, the younger half-brother of Kevin Webster. Carl’s first appearance is set for April 11, marking the first time the character will be seen on-screen.

Carl’s introduction will be far from smooth, as his first scenes see him getting into a heated dispute with Abi over a parking space. Neither of them realizes initially that they have a family connection—Abi is actually married to Carl’s half-brother, Kevin. The tension between Carl and Abi raises questions about what kind of presence Carl will have in Weatherfield. According to the official press release, “As sparks fly and temperatures rise between them, can Carl charm his way out of this one? And will Kevin and Debbie be pleased to have their little brother hanging around, whatever his motives are?”

Howard also provided additional insight into Carl’s personality, revealing that he is not without his flaws. “He’s maybe a little bit selfish, especially between his trousers sometimes!” This suggests that Carl may bring a bit of mischief and drama with him, particularly in terms of his relationships. Whether he becomes a welcome addition to the Webster family or causes trouble remains to be seen.

But Carl isn’t the only newcomer shaking things up in Weatherfield. Another new character, Theo Silverton, is set to make his debut on March 25. Played by Downton Abbey actor James Cartwright, Theo arrives on the scene as a scaffolder who quickly finds himself in trouble with some of the locals. His presence doesn’t sit well with Julie and George, leading to early conflicts. However, Todd eventually steps in to help him smooth things over.

Theo’s arrival also introduces an interesting dynamic with Todd, who feels an instant attraction toward him. However, Theo remains mysterious and doesn’t reveal too much about his personal life right away. Cartwright offered some hints about his character, explaining, “I think Theo is a good guy. He comes in with the best of intentions, as most people do, but he may upset some people with his behavior.”

With James making a long-awaited return, Carl’s unexpected arrival, and Theo stirring up intrigue, Weatherfield is set for an eventful few weeks. The mix of family drama, romantic tension, and personal ambitions will ensure plenty of excitement as these characters settle into their new storylines.
