Helen Flanagan has thrilled Coronation Street fans by teasing a possible return to the beloved ITV soap, seven years after stepping away from the role of Rosie Webster. 

The 34-year-old actress, who first made her mark on the cobbles in 2000, has now hinted at a dramatic comeback with a storyline that could shake things up in Weatherfield.

Helen became a household name thanks to her portrayal of Rosie Webster, the bubbly yet sharp-tongued daughter of Sally and Kevin Webster.

However, after 12 years in the role, Helen decided to move on in 2012, revealing that she no longer enjoyed playing Rosie’s famously sassy and often self-centered persona.

In 2016, Helen briefly reprised her role, bringing Rosie back to Weatherfield for a short-lived return. However, following the birth of her second child, she once again stepped away from the show to focus on her growing family.

A Possible Return on the Horizon?

Now, in an exclusive interview, Helen has given fans hope that Rosie might be making a comeback, revealing that she would love to rejoin Coronation Street. She explained that living in her hometown of Bolton makes it easier for her to balance work and parenting responsibilities.

As a single mother to three children—Matilda, nine, Delilah, six, and Charlie, three—Helen’s priorities have changed over the years. However, she believes that returning to Coronation Street could be a great opportunity, not just for her career but also for showcasing a new chapter in Rosie Webster’s life.

What Could Rosie’s Storyline Look Like?

Helen has even teased an idea for how Rosie could fit back into the soap, suggesting that she would love to see her character take on the role of an iconic Rovers Return barmaid.

“A single mum with a real storyline, with two kids that she dumps with Sally to have her Rovers Return play out an iconic barmaid role,” Helen suggested, imagining a fun and dramatic twist to Rosie’s return.

With Sally Webster still a major figure in Weatherfield, there is plenty of potential for a storyline where Rosie turns up on her mother’s doorstep with her children in tow, looking for support as she tries to find her place in the world once again.

Rosie’s Most Memorable Storylines

Throughout her time on Coronation Street, Rosie was at the center of numerous gripping storylines, but one in particular stands out in Helen’s memory—the infamous John Stape affair and kidnapping plot.

Back in 2011, Rosie found herself entangled in a scandalous romance with her former teacher, John Stape. What began as a forbidden relationship soon turned into something far darker. After their affair was exposed, John’s life unraveled, leading to him being fired and later attacked by Rosie’s furious father, Kevin.

However, the most shocking twist came when John kidnapped Rosie, holding her captive in his grandmother’s attic for five weeks. This tense and dramatic storyline saw Rosie trapped in isolation until she was finally rescued by John’s then-girlfriend, Fiz Brown.

Reflecting on her time in Weatherfield, Helen admitted that this storyline was one of her career highlights. “Rosie had such good storylines like the John Stape storyline about me being locked in an attic,” she recalled.
