Coronation Street star Colson Smith shared his feelings about writing his final script for the show: “I hate the ending my character got, but it’s the price I had to pay after signing that deal.”

Colson Smith, best known for portraying Craig Tinker in Coronation Street,

has shared his emotions about receiving his final scripts as his departure from the long-running soap approaches.

Having announced his exit in January after 14 years on the show, the actor is now preparing to bid farewell to the character he has played since 2011.

In a conversation with his co-stars Jack P Shepherd and Ben Price on their On The Sofa podcast,

Colson opened up about the moment he received his last scripts and how it made his exit feel more tangible.

When asked how it felt to read his final scenes, he admitted that it had been a profound moment for him.

“Alright, yeah. It feels very real,” Colson remarked, acknowledging that it was a significant moment in his career. He went on to explain that he hadn’t fully grasped the emotional weight of the situation until he physically held the scripts in his hands. “I think it’s that bit of, I didn’t realise how big of a deal it was, actually getting your last scripts and reading it. It’s quite a lot to process and go through, but I’m excited for the work, I’m excited to play the exit, really, I just want it to happen in a weird way.”

His co-star Ben Price pressed further, asking if it was the final scripts that made the reality of his departure truly sink in. “Are you saying that before, you kind of had it in your head that it’s going to go, but seeing it in black and white is the bit where you thought, ‘Oh, I’ve got X amount of weeks left, this is it’?”

Colson confirmed that seeing the scripts made everything feel more real. “I’m like ‘okay, I’m into the last stretch now, I’ve got four or five weeks and then I’m twiddling my thumbs playing Football Manager’,” he joked, adding a touch of humor to his emotional reflection.

When his departure was initially announced, Colson took to social media to share his thoughts on leaving Coronation Street. In a heartfelt statement, he expressed gratitude for the experiences he had gained over the years and the people he had worked with.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I’ve learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home,” he wrote. “I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy.”

Colson also hinted at his future plans beyond the soap, saying, “For me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!”

Over the years, Craig Tinker has been involved in several compelling storylines that have captivated audiences. From his early days as Beth Tinker’s kind-hearted son to his career as a police officer navigating the complexities of law enforcement in Weatherfield, his character has evolved significantly. He has tackled difficult storylines, including his battle with obsessive-compulsive disorder and his dedication to justice.

As his final scenes approach, fans are eager to see how Craig’s journey will conclude. While details of his departure remain under wraps, viewers can expect an emotional send-off for the beloved character.

Colson’s exit marks another major shake-up for Coronation Street, as several other cast members have also announced their departures in recent months. His decision to leave the soap after more than a decade signals a new chapter in his career, and fans will undoubtedly be watching closely to see what he does next.

While saying goodbye to Craig Tinker will be bittersweet, Colson Smith’s talent and dedication ensure that he has a bright future ahead. As he prepares to take his final bow on the cobbles, his fans and co-stars alike will be cheering him on in whatever comes next.
