Coronation Street actress Georgia Taylor has left fans in disbelief after they discovered that her real name is completely different from the one she is known by.

Georgia, best known for portraying Toyah Battersby on the long-running ITV soap, first appeared on the cobbles in 1997 as part of the Battersby family,

 which included her on-screen sister Leanne, played by Jane Danson. 

Over the years, Toyah has been at the center of several dramatic and emotional storylines, making her a fan favorite.

From enduring a traumatic assault to dealing with the tragic loss of her husband Imran Habeeb, Toyah’s journey has been anything but easy. 

More recently, her struggles continued when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, leaving viewers heartbroken. 

Amid her personal battles, she also became entangled in a complicated romantic situation involving Leanne’s partner, Nick Tilsley. The revelation of Toyah’s affair with Nick led to explosive consequences, with Leanne seeking revenge before the dust finally settled.

However, away from the fictional drama of Weatherfield, fans have been shocked to learn that Georgia Taylor isn’t actually the actress’s real name. A discussion on a Coronation Street fan page recently brought this revelation to light, with many long-time viewers expressing their surprise.

“Wait, Georgia Taylor’s real name is Claire? Mind blown,” one fan wrote. Another added, “I’ve been watching her for years and had no idea her name wasn’t actually Georgia!”

The actress, whose birth name is Claire Marie Jackson, previously explained why she chose to adopt a different stage name. In an interview, she revealed that when she joined the actors’ union Equity, she discovered that there were already many Claires registered. Wanting something unique, she opted for Georgia, a name she simply liked.

As for her surname, she made a deeply personal decision to honor her late grandfather by choosing Taylor. Though she didn’t fully consider the long-term implications of changing her name at the time, she has since embraced it, admitting that she will now answer to just about anything.

Despite this revelation, Georgia remains best known and loved by Coronation Street fans as Toyah Battersby, a role she continues to portray with dedication. Fans can catch her in action on the soap, airing Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8 p.m. on ITV1 and ITVX.
