The cash had initially been taken during a robbery orchestrated by two of Weatherfield’s most notorious criminals, Harvey Gaskell and Damon Hay.

As threats from Harvey’s associates escalated, David became desperate to find a way to repay what he owed. In a bid to keep his family safe, he resorted to drastic measures—including working as a getaway driver for a robbery and taking on other illegal jobs for quick cash.

His partnership with Andy Garland has been crucial in this descent into crime, with Andy acting as the middleman for these risky operations. But now, it appears Andy might have ulterior motives, leaving David vulnerable to a dangerous betrayal.

Is Andy About to Set David Up?

In upcoming episodes set to air next week, David attempts to cover up his illegal activities by telling his wife, Shona, that he has been doing home-visit barbering for extra money. However, as soon as she leaves, David wastes no time in calling Andy to arrange another meeting.

When the two meet up, Andy hands David payment for his latest job. Despite the risk, David is eager to keep the money coming in and tells Andy that he needs as many jobs as possible.

Speaking about the ongoing storyline in December, Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks shed some light on David’s predicament, emphasizing that this is unfamiliar territory for the beloved character.

“I love the Platts for many reasons. They’re funny, they’re brilliant, and they feel like a real family,” Brooks explained.

She continued, “What I’m keen to show is that this is Corrie. David’s a hairdresser, and he’s not used to being embroiled with drug barons and gangsters. That’s not his world.

“But what happens if you take a guy who’s very ordinary and put him in a world where people are acting and reacting without any thought or consequence? It’s really important to show how a normal fella reacts to all of this.”

What’s Next for David?

With his criminal ties tightening around him, David is in serious danger. If Andy is indeed setting him up, he could soon find himself in a position where there’s no way out.
