Former DAYS cast member Guy Wilson confirms that he will officially take over the role of Lucky, replacing Jonathan Jackson at GH—and it’s not just temporary!

Fans of General Hospital will soon see a temporary change in the role of Lucky Spencer.

Beginning on Tuesday, February 18, actor Guy Wilson, best known for his portrayal of Will Horton on Days of Our Lives, will step in for Jonathan Jackson.

Wilson’s stint as Lucky is expected to be brief, spanning only a handful of episodes.

Fortunately for longtime viewers, Jackson has already resumed filming and will return to screens before the end of the month,

according to a statement provided exclusively to Soap Opera Digest.

A Return to Familiar Ground

Wilson is no stranger to General Hospital. In 2006, he made a brief appearance in a fantasy sequence as a young Luke Spencer, Lucky’s late father.

In that scene, Luke and Tracy Quartermaine imagined an alternate version of their past, which included a youthful portrayal of Luke by Wilson. This upcoming stint marks his second time stepping into the world of Port Charles, but now he will take on the full-fledged role of Lucky Spencer, a character deeply ingrained in the soap’s history.

Interestingly, Wilson shares a few real-life similarities with the character he will be portraying. Like Lucky, he has a strong passion for music. Adding to the parallels, Wilson’s father served as the mayor of Sebastopol, California, where he was raised. Lucky, on the other hand, has the unique distinction of having both of his parents, Luke and Laura, serve as mayors of Port Charles at different points in time.

Wilson’s Daytime Drama Experience

Wilson made his daytime television debut in 2014 when he was cast as Will Horton on Days of Our Lives. He inherited the role from Chandler Massey, who had won three Daytime Emmy Awards for his performance as Will. Wilson once described working on a soap as being akin to playing a professional sport, explaining that the experience required teamwork, endurance, and camaraderie, much like a long and grueling sports season.

His time on Days came to an unexpected end in 2015 when his character was killed by the infamous Necktie Killer, Ben Weston. However, in 2017, Days of Our Lives resurrected the character of Will Horton, though Wilson did not return; instead, the show opted to bring back Massey. Reflecting on his exit from the soap, Wilson expressed the emotional toll of leaving behind the close-knit cast and crew. He emphasized the unique familial bond that forms among soap actors who work together daily, stating that his departure felt like the end of a cherished chapter in his career.

Since leaving Days of Our Lives, Wilson has found steady work in prime-time television, with roles in popular series such as S.W.A.T., Bosch: Legacy, and NCIS: Los Angeles.

Lucky Spencer’s History and Ongoing Storyline

Lucky Spencer has been a pivotal character on General Hospital since 1993, when Jonathan Jackson first brought him to life. Over the years, other actors have stepped into the role, including Jacob Young and Greg Vaughan. Jackson returned to the role in 2009 and remained on the show until 2011. After a brief appearance in 2015, he made a much-anticipated return in August 2024.

Currently, Lucky is readjusting to life in Port Charles after a prolonged absence. His storyline has seen him rekindling his relationship with his former wife, Elizabeth Webber. Together, the two have been working to expose the truth about Cyrus Renault, whom they suspect of orchestrating the recent murders of Sam McCall and Dex Heller. As Lucky continues to navigate his reintegration into the town he once called home, his temporary recast with Wilson will allow the storyline to progress uninterrupted.

While Wilson’s time as Lucky will be brief, his presence ensures that fans won’t miss a moment of the character’s unfolding journey. With Jackson already back on set, viewers can look forward to his full-time return later this month, bringing the familiar face of Lucky Spencer back to Port Charles once more.
