General Hospital’ announces that nothing is temporary—they are officially replacing Jonathan Jackson at GH: “He should go back to where he belongs after what he did…”

Fans of General Hospital may notice a familiar face missing from their screens beginning Tuesday,

February 18, as Jonathan Jackson, who plays Lucky Spencer, is taking a brief hiatus from the show.

However, there is no cause for concern—Jackson is expected to return to Port Charles later this month.

According to Soap Opera Digest, Jackson, 42, will be absent for a “handful” of episodes.

Although the exact reason for his temporary departure has not been disclosed, reports confirm that the actor has already resumed filming.

A Temporary Replacement for Lucky Spencer

While Jackson is away, Days of Our Lives alum Guy Wilson will temporarily take over the role of Lucky.

Wilson, 39, previously portrayed Will Horton on DOOL from 2014 to 2015. Interestingly, this is not his first time appearing on General Hospital—in 2006, he played a young version of Lucky’s late father, Luke Spencer, during a fantasy sequence.

Wilson’s first appearance as Lucky will coincide with an important storyline, as Lucky and his ex-wife Elizabeth prepare to meet their son Aiden’s love interest, Tobias. Aiden has openly spoken about Tobias since coming out in 2023, and fans are eagerly awaiting the introduction of the new character. However, the actor cast as Tobias has yet to be revealed.

Jonathan Jackson’s History with General Hospital

Jackson first stepped into the role of Lucky Spencer in 1993, when he was just 10 years old. His portrayal quickly won over fans, earning him five Emmy Awards. In 1999, he departed the show, passing the role to Jacob Young, followed by Greg Vaughan. Jackson made a much-anticipated return in 2009 and remained part of the cast until 2011.

After a nine-year absence—aside from a brief guest appearance in 2015—Jackson officially rejoined the soap in August 2024, signing a multi-year contract. His return was met with excitement from long-time viewers who were thrilled to see the beloved character back in Port Charles.

A Reunion with Genie Francis

One of the most anticipated moments since Jackson’s return has been his on-screen reunion with Genie Francis, who portrays Lucky’s mother, Laura. The duo last shared the screen together a decade ago, and their emotional reconnection has been a highlight for fans. In an Instagram post following the announcement of his return, Jackson expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I’m super excited and I can’t wait to dig in and see what’s going on in Port Charles. I’m excited to see Genie Francis, obviously, and so many others.” He also took a moment to thank the fans for their continued support, acknowledging that their dedication played a role in his decision to return.

Beyond the Soap Opera Scene

While Jackson is widely known for his work on General Hospital, his talents extend beyond acting. He is the lead singer of the rock band Enation, which he formed with his brother, actor Richard Lee Jackson, in 2003. The band has released several albums, and Jackson frequently balances his music career with his acting commitments.

In addition to music, Jackson is also an author. He published a poetry book in 2012 and later wrote The Mystery of Art in 2014, a book that explores the connection between creativity and spirituality.

What’s Next for Lucky Spencer?

With Jackson’s brief hiatus and Wilson’s temporary takeover, fans are eager to see how Lucky’s storyline unfolds. Will his reunion with Elizabeth bring back old feelings? How will he react to Aiden’s new relationship? And what challenges lie ahead for him in Port Charles?

Fortunately, Jackson’s absence will be short-lived, and Lucky Spencer will soon return to General Hospital to continue his journey. Until then, viewers can look forward to Wilson’s portrayal and the fresh dynamics he brings to the role.
