General Hospital Star Laura Wright Recalls Yelling at Cameron Mathison just a day after he lost his home in the LA fire: “I had already warned him not to ‘do that’ with ‘that person,’ but he didn’t listen!”

General Hospital star Cameron Mathison is facing an unimaginable tragedy after losing his home and all of his belongings in the massive Eaton Fire,

which scorched over 14,000 acres in the Altadena area of northern Los Angeles.

Despite the overwhelming loss, the actor returned to work almost immediately, demonstrating incredible resilience in the face of adversity.

Returning to Work Amid Personal Tragedy

Although the fire left Mathison reeling, his responsibilities on General Hospital called him back to set the very next day.

His co-star Laura Wright, who plays Carly Spencer, recalled the difficult moment on The Jennifer Hudson Show,

explaining how surreal it was to act out an intense scene with Mathison just hours after he lost everything.

“I had to go up to Cameron and say, ‘Can I please hug you? Because I’m getting ready to start yelling in your face,'” Wright shared.

Mathison, who portrays Drew Quartermaine (also known as Drew Cain) on the long-running ABC soap, laughed as he recalled the moment. “She came up and apologized first. My character definitely deserved to be yelled at in that scene! And Laura was very sweet. She was like, ‘I’m so sorry, but I’ve got to lay into you today after you just lost your house and everything you own.’”

Trying to stay positive despite the devastation, Mathison responded, “Please do. I think I need the distraction!”

Opening Up About the Fire’s Aftermath

On January 9, Mathison appeared on Good Morning America, where he spoke about the fire’s impact and how difficult it has been to process such a tremendous loss.

“I’ve been up all night. I can’t sleep. I’ve lost my home and everything that I own,” he shared candidly.

Despite the heartbreak, Mathison remains focused on gratitude. “It’s important to acknowledge the things we still have, the things to be grateful for. But unless you’ve gone through it, it’s hard to pull yourself out of that place. You just keep thinking and reeling over everything that’s gone.”

On social media, Mathison has also given updates on how his family is coping in the aftermath of the fire. In one emotional Instagram post, he reflected on what their home truly meant to them.

“Our home was not just walls and things. It was the physical representation of the deep love we have for our children,” he wrote, expressing how much the loss goes beyond just material belongings.

Support from the General Hospital Family

Mathison’s General Hospital co-stars have been in awe of his strength and determination, offering their unwavering support during this incredibly difficult time. Donnell Turner, who plays Curtis Ashford, praised Mathison’s professionalism, saying, “The way Cameron has handled this—he comes to work every day, and you wouldn’t even know what he’s going through. He’s a consummate professional, a genuinely good guy, and it just makes you want to help out however you can.”

Veteran actress Finola Hughes, who portrays Anna Devane, echoed those sentiments, adding, “The grace with which he’s handling it is truly remarkable.”

Looking Ahead: Rebuilding and Staying Strong

While the emotional and logistical challenges of rebuilding after such devastation are overwhelming, Mathison remains optimistic and determined to move forward. Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show, he acknowledged the difficulty of the journey ahead but reassured fans that he and his family are committed to putting the pieces back together.

“It’s one of the most unimaginably overwhelming logistical and emotional traumas you can go through,” he admitted. “It’s unnerving, but at the same time, we’re all going to get through it. Step by step, day by day. L.A. strong.”

Despite losing his home, Mathison’s strength, resilience, and the unwavering support of his colleagues and fans continue to carry him forward. His General Hospital family has rallied around him, proving that even in the darkest of times, community and compassion can make all the difference.
