AGAIN!? Coronation Street is pulled from ITV’s schedule once more, but this time, it’s not really due to a ‘broadcast change’—the reason is “David Platt”! What happened?

Fans of Coronation Street and Emmerdale will need to adjust their Friday night routines, as ITV makes a significant change to its programming.

This evening, viewers won’t be able to catch their usual episode of Coronation Street at 7:30 pm. Instead,

ITV will be broadcasting an FA Cup football match between Manchester United and Leicester City, with coverage beginning at 7:30 pm and kick-off at 8:00 pm.

While Coronation Street is temporarily taking a backseat, its rival Emmerdale will still air this evening, but at an earlier time of 7:00 pm.

So, fans of Corrie needn’t worry—they can catch up on the recent developments in the soap by heading over to ITVX,

where three recent episodes have already been made available for streaming.

The Latest Dramatic Episodes of Coronation Street

The latest Coronation Street episodes saw a dramatic twist for the Platt family, as a fire engulfed their house and caused an explosion. Max Turner (Paddy Bever) and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) narrowly escaped with their lives, but the incident has left everyone in shock. The fire and its aftermath continue to unfold on the show, keeping fans on the edge of their seats as the investigation into the deliberate arson takes center stage.

In addition to this shocking plot, fans can catch up on the latest Emmerdale episodes, which are also packed with suspense. The Emmerdale storyline has been filled with tense moments, including a tragic ice lake crash and the ominous discovery of buried secrets. These developments are sure to keep viewers hooked, with the stakes rising in both soaps.

A Shift in Programming for 2026

This temporary scheduling change comes on the heels of a much larger announcement regarding the future of ITV’s iconic soaps. ITV has revealed that, starting in 2026, Coronation Street and Emmerdale will both undergo significant changes to their episode schedules. The soaps will shift to 30-minute episodes airing Monday through Friday, a move dubbed the “soap power hour.” This will result in one fewer episode each week, a major shift in the soaps’ format.

The change will see Emmerdale moving to an 8:00 pm time slot, with Coronation Street following at 8:30 pm. This new schedule is part of ITV’s efforts to cater to changing audience preferences and viewing habits, particularly as more viewers turn to streaming platforms like ITVX.

Reactions to the Change

The decision to scale back on the number of episodes has sparked mixed reactions from both viewers and cast members. While the change is aimed at improving the soaps’ compatibility with modern viewing patterns, it has raised concerns about the future of the genre. ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, Kevin Lygo, explained that the decision was made after conducting audience research. The new approach aims to create content that is more “streaming-friendly,” aligning with the growing trend of on-demand viewing.

Lygo acknowledged that while streaming on ITVX has increased, a significant portion of the soaps’ audience still watches via traditional television schedules. He emphasized that the change was designed to strike a balance between maintaining strong TV ratings and adapting to the growing popularity of digital streaming platforms.

Job Concerns in the Wake of Changes

While the network has reassured fans that the changes will not directly affect the cast members of Coronation Street and Emmerdale, there are concerns within the industry. Rumors have surfaced suggesting that the job cuts resulting from the reduced episode count could impact up to 75 jobs. Though ITV has stated that no immediate job losses are planned for the actors, the uncertainty surrounding the future of the genre has left some people in the industry worried about what lies ahead.

It remains to be seen how these changes will impact the long-term future of Coronation Street and Emmerdale, but the adjustments are part of a larger strategy to future-proof the soaps and ensure their continued success in an ever-changing media landscape.

The Future of ITV Soaps

As ITV embraces these new changes, fans can expect a very different viewing experience from their beloved soaps. The reduction in episode frequency and the shift in airtimes may lead to a more streamlined format, but the drama, suspense, and emotional storylines that Coronation Street and Emmerdale are known for will undoubtedly continue to captivate audiences.

For now, fans can enjoy the football match tonight and stay tuned for more Coronation Street and Emmerdale drama in the coming weeks. The future may look different for these iconic soaps, but their loyal viewers are sure to remain invested, eager for every twist and turn in the plots that keep them coming back for more.
