EastEnders star Louisa Lytton reveals how she struggled to stand up to BBC bosses and secured an entirely new role apart from Walford’s Ruby Allen: “They were absolutely awful!”

In an exclusive interview, *EastEnders* star Louisa Lytton, known for her portrayal of Ruby Allen,

opened up about the immense challenges she faced when it came to standing up for herself within the industry.

The actress, who has been part of the *EastEnders* cast for several years, spoke candidly about her difficult experiences while working with BBC bosses and how,

despite the struggles, she eventually managed to secure a fresh, entirely new role separate from her infamous character in Walford.

Lytton’s role as Ruby Allen in *EastEnders* made her a household name, and her portrayal of the complicated, fiery character was praised by fans and critics alike.

However, what many viewers didn’t know was that behind the scenes, Lytton was facing significant personal and professional challenges.

In her interview, Lytton revealed that she struggled immensely with the working environment at the BBC, specifically pointing out how difficult it was to assert herself in a demanding and sometimes unkind atmosphere. According to Lytton, dealing with the high-pressure nature of the show’s production and the expectations placed on her was incredibly challenging, and it often felt like she was caught in a battle to be heard.

One of the most shocking revelations Lytton shared was how she felt her voice was largely ignored by the powers that be. She explained that the BBC bosses, who were overseeing her character’s development and storylines, were not supportive of her ideas or concerns. In fact, she described the environment as “absolutely awful,” highlighting the emotional and professional toll that the pressure took on her over the years. Lytton acknowledged that, as a young actress, it was difficult to navigate the complex dynamics of the set, particularly when it felt like her opinions and contributions were undervalued. She recalled times when she felt like she had to conform to expectations that didn’t resonate with her personally, and the emotional strain of constantly feeling misunderstood began to take a serious toll on her mental well-being.

Despite these challenges, Lytton remained resilient and determined to make her voice heard. It wasn’t until she had the courage to stand up for herself and assert her needs that she was able to shift the course of her career. Lytton shared that she had to work hard to gain the confidence to confront the BBC bosses, and it took time for her to finally feel empowered enough to ask for a change. She wanted something different, a role that would allow her to showcase her acting range and push herself creatively. Lytton described the process as “nerve-wracking,” but ultimately, her decision to stand firm in her beliefs was transformative. Her willingness to speak up and challenge the status quo allowed her to secure a new role that was far removed from Ruby Allen and gave her the opportunity to explore new and exciting avenues in her acting career.

The journey to this new chapter wasn’t without its obstacles, however. Lytton admitted that the decision to leave Ruby Allen behind was not an easy one, especially considering the significant fanbase and recognition she had built around the character. Ruby Allen had become a part of her identity, and walking away from that role meant starting over in many ways. Lytton confessed that it was a daunting thought, but she knew deep down that in order to grow as an actress and as a person, she had to take the leap and pursue something that felt more aligned with her values and aspirations.

Looking back, Lytton now feels empowered by the experience, as it taught her the importance of standing up for herself and advocating for her own happiness and success. She explained that being in a high-profile role on a soap opera often comes with an overwhelming sense of pressure, but it also teaches invaluable lessons about resilience, self-advocacy, and finding the courage to pursue new opportunities. Although she had to push through adversity to secure her new role, Lytton now reflects on those difficult moments as a pivotal turning point in her career.

In her new role, Lytton is able to explore a different range of characters and storylines, free from the constraints that came with Ruby Allen. She expressed her excitement and gratitude for the chance to reinvent herself and to be a part of projects that allow her to explore new creative opportunities. The freedom to step away from the role of Ruby has also given Lytton the chance to reflect on her own growth as an actress and as a person. She shared that being able to take on a new challenge has revitalized her passion for acting and has made her even more determined to continue evolving in the industry.

However, Lytton’s journey isn’t just about her personal triumphs; it’s also about empowering others who may be in similar situations. She stressed the importance of being true to oneself and having the courage to push back when something doesn’t feel right. As an actress, she wants to inspire others to take control of their careers and stand up for the opportunities that align with their goals and passions. Lytton emphasized that it’s crucial for individuals in the industry to have a sense of agency over their work and to avoid getting caught in toxic dynamics that stifle creativity and personal well-being.

The interview also touched on Lytton’s hopes for the future. While she’s thrilled with her new role, she’s not ready to rest on her laurels. She spoke about her desire to continue challenging herself with a wide variety of roles, ranging from drama to comedy, and to prove that she’s capable of much more than what fans saw as Ruby Allen. Lytton’s newfound confidence and determination to embrace change have opened the door to even more exciting opportunities, and she’s eager to see where her career will take her next.

In conclusion, Louisa Lytton’s journey from the challenges of working within the constraints of *EastEnders* to securing a fresh role away from her famous character of Ruby Allen is an inspiring tale of resilience and self-empowerment. Through her struggles with BBC bosses and her decision to fight for a new creative path, Lytton has not only transformed her career but also found the strength to redefine herself as an actress. Her story serves as a reminder to anyone in the entertainment industry, or any industry for that matter, that standing up for oneself and pursuing what truly feels right is a powerful and necessary step toward success.
